Digilabs Value Added Course Program at Idhaya College of Arts and Science for Women
Idhaya College of Arts and Science for Women, Pondicherry, made a progressive move by collaborating with Digilabs to offer a Data Science program for first-year students, equipped with Virtual IT Labs. The objective of the program is for all female students to learn practical programming, data, and machine learning ideas in a cloud lab setting.
The program was offered as a Value-Added Course for 63 first-year students, focusing on Data Science using Python Programming. The technical delivery of the course was designed as a 7 day intensive program (30 hours).
Digilabs played a central role in enabling this program through its cloud-based Virtual IT Labs platform. Students directly interacted with Jupyter Notebook sessions via Digilabs, enabling them to code, execute, and test Python programs effortlessly on any device. To further improve faculty-led training, Google Colab was also used by trainers, introducing students to different industry-standard development platforms.
The training sessions were conducted by two experienced faculty members, assisted by the virtual lab configuration provided by Digilabs. Apart from coding platforms, Digilabs offered a comprehensive Learning Management System (LMS) with features such as MCQ based tests, practicals, assignments, scorecards, and tracking.
At the end of the course, all participants received a Course Completion Certificate, officially recognizing the program as a Value Added Program and strengthening students’ academic and career profiles.
What Students Learned: From Python Basics to Mini Projects
Students learned hands on exposure to the same professional tools used for data engineering and AI domains.
- Days 1 & 2: focused on Python fundamentals, data types, operators, functions, and core libraries like NumPy and Pandas, along with practical dataset handling.
- Day 3: introduced real-world data challenges such as missing values, duplicates, and preprocessing techniques using Pandas.
- Day 4: covered Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) and data visualization using Matplotlib and Seaborn, helping students interpret data visually and statistically.
- Day 5: introduced Machine Learning concepts, including supervised and unsupervised learning, linear regression, and K-Means clustering.
- Day 6: was dedicated to a guided mini project, where students applied everything they learned, data cleaning, EDA, model building, evaluation, and visualization, on real datasets like student performance or sales analysis.
Collaboration successfully transformed a classroom based program into an industry aligned, practical learning experience. Students gained confidence in Python programming, learned how to work with real datasets, and experienced cloud-based development environments, skills that are essential for future careers in data science and analytics.
Utilizing Digilabs Virtual IT Labs, Idhaya College ensured scalable, accessible, and modern technical education for women students, proving that virtual labs can bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations.
"I feel confident how our students grew through the Digilabs Virtual IT Labs program. From learning Python basics to working confidently on real datasets, their progress genuinely impressed me as a teacher."
